Larry Malone, professor of economics at Hartwick College, will present a lecture that identifies and describes the substantial economic challenges faced by rural residents of New York State, while considering a number of public policy proposals that would promote economic revitalization. The challenges include: the decline of agriculture, rising transportation costs, misdirected energy independence initiatives, poor broadband telecommunications, and a dearth of entrepreneurship in rural New York. Political challenges to revitalization will then be discussed through the introduction of some controversial public policy proposals that would dramatically change the direction of existing public investment, taxation, and immigration policies in the state.

This lecture will be held at the Fenimore Art Museum Auditorium.
